Maruia

Maruia is a small village in the Buller District in the West Coast in the north of the South Island of New Zealand. State Highway 65 (SH 65) passes through the place. He has about ten kilometers to the south in Springs Junction its connection to the SH 7

Murchison is located 65km north, the Lewis Pass 39 km southeast on SH 7 and Reefton is located on SH 7, 63 km route kilometers west. The nearby towns are Springs Junction in the south and Warwick Junction in the north. The Maruia River runs west of the town, the station Creek ( also Sheriff River) flows into the Maruia.

Maruia including environment at the 2006 census had a population of 174, an increase of twelve since 2001.

The place is dominated by dairy farming. In 2005, the community celebrated the 100th anniversary of the settlement of the valley of the Maruia.

Education

The Maruia School, a co-educational primary school for the 1st to 8th class 2010 had 24 students and a decile rating of 8 The school was founded in 1926.
