Mary Forbes
Mary Forbes ( * December 30, 1879 or 1883 in Hornsey, England, † 22 July 1974 in Beaumont, California, USA) was a British actress.
Life
When Mary Forbes in 1919 made her film debut in the UK, she was already an established theater manager and actress, which led a London theater and had been playing on Broadway in New York. There they joined up in 1945 in a total of eight productions. In over 130 films, of which the vast number in Hollywood was, she was cast in medium to small supporting roles, often as a mother, aunt or grandmother. Among her better known films include the drama In another country, the comedy The Awful Truth, and three appearances in the Sherlock Holmes series with Basil Rathbone.
Mary Forbes was also the mother of actor Ralph Forbes, with whom she performed in two movies, and Brenda Forbes, a successful theater career struck later. She was married with the concert singer AJ Forbes. At her death she was over ninety years old.
