Matt & Kim are an American indie pop duo from Brooklyn, New York.
History
Matt Johnson and Kim Schifino had met in 2004 while studying at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. Before the two began making music together, Matt had played bass in a punk band. Kim made in their schooling first musical experience with the clarinet. Until then, Matt Johnson could still play no keyboard. Even Kim Schifino was not familiar with the drums. A few months after they had learned their respective instruments, they were persuaded by friends to give her first concert. As " Matthew and Kimberley " Johnson and Schifino completed their first live appearance in October 2004.
After an inconsiderable change of name took it the following year every available opportunity in Brooklyn to play live. The energetic performance earned the band a lot of attention. By the way Matt and Kim released the EP To / From and started touring extensively through the United States. They were burning on the way to the self- booked concerts in the back of their bus their own CDs and " pre-recorded seemingly every art gallery and every cellar of the country".
Published in 2006 Matt & Kim her eponymous debut album, which was enthusiastically received by both the critics and by the fans and continue to give concerts at renowned music festivals such as The Siren Music Festival, Lollapalooza and South by Southwest. Parallel to the tour activities in Australia, Japan, Europe and later New Zealand artists working on their second album, Grand, which was published by the Fader label in early 2009. This follow-up work was received for the most part at home by Johnson in Vermont.
On November 2, was released in 2010 Sidewalks, her third studio album, which includes ten songs. The first single was released on August 31 Cameras.
Style
Stylistic features of the band are catchy danceable pop tunes combined with a percussion -heavy percussive sound and simple synth beats. Musically, Matt and Kim move in the opinion of some critics between Indietronic and dance pop and leave due to the instrumental combination of drums and keyboards recognize certain parallels to the indie rock duo Mates of State. Evocative live performances, the " look more like dancing and partying, than after a traditional concert " have become a trademark of the band.
