Mattias Eklundh

Mattias "IA" Eklundh (born 1969 in Gothenburg ) is a Swedish guitarist and singer, known for his band Freak Kitchen and his involvement in Frozen Eyes, Fate, The Jonas Hellborg Trio, and Art Metal. He has also released solo albums under the name Freak Guitar and plays guitar on three albums by Soilwork.

Biography

Eklundh learned to play the drums at the age of six years. At thirteen he switched to electric guitar. By his own admission include musician Frank Zappa and Paul Gilbert and the band Kiss his main influences. But he also has albums by Miles Davis and Slayer.

The mid-1980s Eklundh founded the band Frozen Eyes, but disbanded soon after the release of their first album in 1988 again. Soon after, he became a member of the Danish metal band Fate. He played guitar on their album Sniff Scratch'n of 1990.

After he had returned to Sweden in 1992 he founded his own band Freak Kitchen with former Frozen Eyes drummer Joakim Sjöberg and bassist Christian Grönlund. The band played for 8 years in this occupation until Sjöberg and Grönlund 2000 left the band and were replaced by Christer Örtefors and Björn Fryklund.

In addition to his Freak Kitchen albums Eklundh has recorded three solo albums, and was a guest musician on many Swedish heavy bands like Evergrey and Soilwork. His Freak Guitar solo albums have been released by Steve Vai's Favored Nations label.

In 2005 he collaborated with the Swedish jazz bassist Jonas Hellborg and drummer Niclas Campagnol. They had their first performance together in Mumbai, India, followed by an extensive tour of India.

Once a year, he also performs a Guitar Clinic, which he calls Freak Guitar Camp.

Mattias Eklundh plays guitars by Caparison. The company has made ​​its Apple Horn guitar for him, and he also plays Yamaha guitars. The company has designed the Model Silent Guitar for him. He has long been used Laney amplifiers, currently the VH100R.
