Meadowbank, New South Wales

Meadowbank is a suburb of Sydney, Australia, 15 km west of the center of Sydney. It belongs to the Local Government Area Ryde City and is one of the northern suburbs of Sydney. Meadowbank is located in a valley on the north bank of the Parramatta River.

History

Native culture

The area of Sydney Cove to Parramatta on the north bank of the Parramatta River was probably that of the Wallumedegal and had the Aboriginesnamen Wallumetta - territory of the people Wallumedes.

The Aborigines in the Sydney area were clans with larger groups who spoke the same language. They were divided into three language groups - the Kuringgai (or Guringai ), the Dharug (or Dharruk / Dharuk / Darug ) and the Dharawal (or Tharawal ). The Wallumedegal probably talked Dharug.

European colonization

The land area of the Field of Mars, which was left to the physician William Balmain in 1794, was named Meadowbank. Balmain returned in 1801 returned to England, leaving his lands the administration by his professional colleagues D' Arcy Wentworth. Economy

The station is on the Northern Line of the CityRail network and has two platforms exterior. Two trains per hour drive in any direction to the railway station. During peak periods, additional trains are used.

A short distance to the railway station is the ferry pier of Parramatta to Sydney. The next pier to the west is Sydney Olympic Park, in east Kissing Point. The ferry transported on weekends mostly tourists and on weekdays professionals to the center of Sydney. Because of the shallow water in the Parramatta River, especially during low tide, catamarans are used as ferries.
