Mecklenburg-Güstrow

Mecklenburg- Güstrow refers to the former part of the Duchy of Mecklenburg- Güstrow, which later formed the Wendish circle in the Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg -Schwerin.

History

The part Duchy of Mecklenburg- Güstrow was founded during the Second Mecklenburg main division of the state after driving Holzer sharing agreement in 1621 by real division of the dominion of the dukes of Mecklenburg. A rule in a division of Mecklenburg - named after the respective principal residence - Schwerin and a Guestrower part of the country already existed with some interruptions after the death of Henry the thicknesses 1477 and again from 1520 after the House Neubrandenburg contract. He wrote after the death of Magnus II of his son Albert VII forced division of the state firmly in the parts Schwerin and Güstrow. In the division from 1621 between Adolf Friedrich I and Johann Albrecht II the latter received as part of his equipment Güstrow the offices Gustrow, Ribnitz, Schwaan, Dargun, Gnoien, Neukalen, Plau, Stargard, Stavenhagen, Boitzenburg, Broda, Feldberg, Furstenberg, Goldberg, Ivenack, Strelitz, Wanzka, Wesenberg and Wredenhagen, and the cities of Friedland, Krakow, Laage, Malchin, Marlow, Neubrandenburg, Penzlin, Robel, brawn, and Teterow Woldegk. Together remained the city of Rostock and Warnemünde, the four national monasteries Dobbertin, Malchow, Ribnitz and the Monastery of the Holy Cross in Rostock.

Together remained at the insistence of the estates especially the Court and District Court, the Consistory, the Landtag, the decision on border disputes, the cost to the Imperial Court of Justice.

A richest or lehnsrechtliche recognition of this rule division did not take place. Consequently headlines both regent of the resulting part dominions continue unchanged and without distinction as dukes of Mecklenburg. Only because of better distinction added to this item colloquially the name of the part of gentlemen.

The residence of the Guestrower part of the country was until 1695 the front Güstrow. After temporary expulsion of obodritischen ruling family resided from 1628 to 1630 Albrecht von Wallenstein Duke of Mecklenburg in Guestrower castle.

In 1631, after Wallenstein's fall, the refugee Guestrower Duke Johann Albrecht moved back to his residence Güstrow.

With the death of his son Gustav Adolf ( 1695) died in the line of Mecklenburg- Güstrow the dynasty already in the second generation in the Throne follow -capable male line from. Profound legal uncertainties led subsequently to perennial inheritance dispute in the Mecklenburg Princely House who accepted temporarily warlike character and could eventually be settled only by the influence of the emperor and foreign powers of the Lower Saxon kingdom of the circle.

After many years of negotiations was on March 8, 1701 in Hamburg between the Dukes Frederick William (I.) as regent of Mecklenburg -Schwerin and Adolf Friedrich ( II ) as the future regent of the newly formed (partial) Duchy of Mecklenburg -Strelitz an agreement reached to the effect that the Guestrower heritage should be shared between the two in terms of value (Hamburger comparison). Schwerin Duke fell while formally the (partial) Duchy of Mecklenburg- Güstrow with the adhering thereto voice on the diets to ( but not including claims assigned to Strelitz areas). Thus the name of Mecklenburg- Güstrow has been preserved in legal documents until the end of the Old Kingdom. The the (partial) Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg -Schwerin remained greater part of Mecklenburg- Güstrow formed the so-called Wendish district of Mecklenburg State.
