Mehdi Jomaa

Mehdi Jomaa or Dschum'a (Arabic مهدي جمعة; born March 21, 1962 in Mahdia ) is a Tunisian engineer, politician and current Prime Minister of Tunisia.

Life

Mehdi Jomaa was until 13 March 2013 when he was appointed Minister of Industry under Prime Minister Hamadi Dschebali, active in the private sector. Most recently, he was Director of the Aviation Department of Hutchinson, a company that belongs to the French group Total. During his tenure as minister, he remained inconspicuous. Only his plans to promote fracking in Tunisia, met with some resistance.

On 15 December 2013, agreed the national dialogue between the government and the opposition, which met after the assassination of the left wing MP Mohamed Brahmi, Mehdi Jomaa for appointment as interim prime minister. For the reputation of Tunisia, the Republican Party and the left Popular Front, which boycotted the vote, Jomaa applies - even though he is independent of party politics - as a man of the Islamist Ennahda.

On January 9, 2014 Jomaa took office as Prime Minister.
