Mehed ei nuta ( German for " Men do not cry " ) is an Estonian film from the year 1968.
Action
A group of men from the city has diagnosed with a terrible disease: insomnia. You go into a modern sanatorium to cure their suffering. From a young doctor however, they are deported to a (supposed) island at the Estonian west coast. A "real" sanatorium is far and wide in sight.
The doctor prescribes the "patients" exactly what they need: work and fresh air. More than unwilling to engage with the surprising treatment that men do everything as quickly as possible to leave the island ... Hilarious slapstick and mature tangles of very different characters and temperaments are the consequences, garnished with some love luck.
Background
Mehed was an nuta the first feature film of the Estonian director, actor and dancer Sulev Nõmmik. He plays in the movie itself a fidgety and constantly hounded acting professor who runs a sanitarium on the latest medical status, but in which the sick are sicker by the latest forms of treatment.
The black-and-white film was shot on the island Kõinastu laid in Koguva on the island Muhu, in the village Varbla, on the beach of Pärnu and Tallinn.
Had the witty comedy on 1 January 1969 at the Estonian television premiere. They quickly became a cult film. Many dialogue scenes are common as winged sets each Estonians.
The strip was awarded the Eastern European television film festival in Varna, Bulgaria.
2004, the film was released in a little restored version on DVD.
