Varbla Parish

Varbla ( German: Werpel ) is an Estonian rural municipality in the district of Pärnu with an area of 314 km ². It lies on the Gulf of Riga, 70 km from Pärnu.

It has 1013 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2006). In addition to the main town Varbla (151 inhabitants) it includes the villages Allika, Aruküla, Helmküla, Haapsi, Hõbesalu, Kadaka, Kanamardi, Kidise, Kilgi, Koeri, Korju, Kulli, Käru, Maade, Matsi Mereäärse, Muriste, Motsu, Mäliküla, Nõmme, Paadrema, Paatsalu, Piha, Raespa, Raheste, Rannaküla Rauksi, Rädi, Saare, Saulepi, Selja, Sookalda, Tamba, Tiilima, Tousi, Täpsi, Vaiste, Ohu and Ännikse.

57 % of the area is covered by forest, of which 42% are in state ownership. Economic activities are mainly agriculture and tourism. The 30 km long sandy beach on the Baltic Sea in summer attracts many visitors. Worth seeing is the 1912 built by Eduard Kleisel Art Nouveau manor of Illuste.
