Geography
Geographical location
Meissner is on Krösselberg between the Hohe Meissner and Werra in the nature park Meissner Kaufunger forest, about 40 km southeast of Kassel.
Neighboring communities
Meissner is bordered to the north by the municipality Berkatal, on the east by the city of Eschwege, in the south on the community Wehretal and the city forest Kappel, and in the west on the town of hessian Lichtenau (all in the Werra- Meißner -Kreis).
Structure
The municipality comprises the seven districts Abterode ( council offices ), Alberode, Germerode, Vockerode, Weidenhausen, Wellingerode and Wolfterode.
History
The community Meissner was founded during the municipal reform in Hesse at 31 December 1971 through the merger of formerly independent places Abterode, Alberode, Germerode, Vockerode, Weidenhausen and Wellingerode. The village Wolfterode joined them on 1 January 1974.

The mayor is elected by direct vote for a term of six years. Since 2002, Friedhelm Junghans (SPD ) mayor of Meissner.
Regular events
Every year on the weekend following Corpus Christi is a country music festival held in the village of Abterode.
The first Advent takes place every year the Christmas market around the church.
