Merklín (Karlovy Vary District)

Merklín ( German Merkelsgrün ) is a municipality of 1,008 inhabitants in the Czech Republic. It is situated in 513 m on the southern slopes of the Ore below the Pleßberges ( Plešivec ) in a valley at the confluence of the creek Elias ( Eliášův creek ) in the Wistritz ( Bystřice ).

The 2 km north of the city Hroznětín ( City of Light ) located place belongs to the Okres Karlovy Vary. He is a resort in the forests of the Erzgebirge and the terminus of the branch line Dalovice - Merklín.

The first mention of Merkelsgrün took place on 23 May 1273 a papal document of Gregory X..

On 1 December 1930, the municipality Merkelsgrün 659 inhabitants, on 17 May 1939 were 556 and on May 22, 1947 still 527 residents.

The Church is a traditional location for wood processing companies. The cardboard factory G.T. Mandl is next to the Elektroporcelán as, a manufacturer of electrical insulators, the main employer of the town.

Community structure

The municipality consists of the villages Merklín Lipa ( Lindig ) Merklín ( Merkelsgrün ) Pstruží ( Salmthal ) and Oldřiš ( Ullersgrün ), at the same time also form Katastralbezirke.
