Merkwiller-Pechelbronn

Merkwiller -Pechelbronn ( German Watch Weiler- Pechelbronn ) is a commune with 975 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the Northern Vosges in the department of Bas- Rhin in the Alsace region.

History

Pechelbronn was the first place in Europe, was recovered at the oil. The Erdpechquelle occupied since 1498. Dating from the Pechelbronner layers oil was first used medicinally for skin diseases. The commercial use but began in 1735 and ended in 1970. Generations of technicians visited the area to study the production and refining of petroleum. 1927 took the brothers Marcel and Conrad Schlumberger in Pechelbronn before the first electric well logging.
