Michael Ball (bishop)

Michael Thomas Ball ( born February 14, 1932) is a British Anglican theologian. He was from 1990 to 1997 Bishop of Truro in the Church of England.

Ball was born as the son of Thomas Ball and his wife Kathleen Ball, born Bradley. He attended Lancing College and studied teaching at Queens ' College, Cambridge. His first position was he held in 1955 as a teacher of General Science (General Science) at Pocklington School in East Yorkshire. In Pocklington, he was also tutor ( House Tutor ) at the Junior Boarding House of Lyndhurst School.

In 1960 he gave up his job as a teacher and co-founded with his twin brother Peter Ball, who later became Bishop of Gloucester ( 1992-1993), in Stratford Park in Stroud in Gloucestershire, the monastic community monastic community of the Glorious Ascension, the first in Kelham, near Newark, had its headquarters. He was a teacher for biology and chemistry at Marling School in Stroud; to 1975 he was head of the local Lower School. In 1971 he was ordained a deacon; in the same year followed by the ordination. From 1976 to 1980 he was Chaplain ( Chaplain ) of Sussex University. In 1980 he was ordained a bishop. From 1980 to 1990 he was known as " Bishop of Jarrow " Suffragan Bishop in the Church of England. End of January 1990, he was, as the successor of Peter Mumford, the 13th Bishop of Truro. He was the first bishop in the diocese of Truro, who implemented the introduced in the Church of England since 1992, women's ordination. Ball was among the supporters of women's ordination in the Church of England. In February 1997, he went into retirement. His successor was Bill Ind.

Ball was during his tenure as Bishop of Truro Director (Director) of Truro Cathedral School ( November 1991 - October 1996), of the Truro Diocesan Board of Finance ( August 1992 - February 1997 ) and the Epiphany Trust Truro (May 1991 February 1997 ).

Ball wrote the book Foolish Risks of God, an introduction to the religious parables of the New Testament; the book was published in early 2003.

Michael Ball lives with his brother Peter in the county of Somerset.

Ball was in his capacity the House of Lords as Bishop of Truro from April 1996 until his retirement in February 1997 as Bishop of Truro as a clergyman Lord.
