Michael Barry ( born December 18, 1975 in Toronto, Ontario ) is a retired Canadian professional racing cyclist. During his career he has been in several big teams especially as a helper in use, including for Lance Armstrong at U.S. Postal Service Pro Cycling Team, or even at the German T- Mobile team. In the wake of the doping case against Barry Armstrong gave shortly after his career end in October 2012 as many of his former U.S. Postal team-mate taking banned substances in his playing days by the year 2006.

Career

Barry began his career in 1992 at the Trillium Development Team in Canada, where he was able to celebrate some success on the track. In 1996, he first participated in world championships and took the race the U23 class eighth. His biggest win of the year he had, however, at the national championships in Canada, where he won the road race. 1998 Barry wrote the American Saturn Cycling Team. There he won in his first season, a stage at the International Cycling Classic and the overall standings at the Grand Prix de L' Amiante. At Saturn, Barry remained four years and still won more races such as the Carter Lake Road Race.

Since 2002, Michael Barry stood at U.S. Postal Service / Discovery Channel Pro Cycling Team under contract. There he took part in both the Giro d' Italia and the Vuelta a España on. He twice won the team time trial and previously at the Vuelta a Catalunya. Barry, 2004 was again a team member at the Olympic Games. 2005 he achieved his first individual victory for the Discovery Channel Pro Cycling Team at the Tour of Austria on the 5th stage. In the 2007 season, Michael Barry started for the German T-Mobile Team.

Three times - in 1996 in Atlanta, Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008 - Barry started at the Olympic Games in the road race. In 2008, he reached his ninth best Olympic placing and one of the greatest successes of his career. After the disqualification of the original Silbermedaillisten Davide Rebellin for doping Barry moved in the results even before eighth. Barry also represented his country at numerous Road World Championships and can show its best result here in seventh place in the road race in his Canadian home to Hamilton in 2003. 2009 in Mendrisio, he was 18

The national championship of his country in the road race missed Barry in 2001 and in his final season in 2012 as second only scarce, 2003 and also achieved fifth place.

Doping

In October 2012 Barry admitted to have doped during his career until the summer of 2006.

Trivia

Michael Barry is married to the former U.S. cyclist Deirdre Demet - Barry. He's athlete ambassador of development organization Right to Play. He lives just like his former teammate Tom Danielson at Boulder (Colorado ) and the season in the Spanish Girona.
