Michael Russell (tennis)

Michael Craig Russell ( born May 1, 1978 in Detroit, Michigan) is an American tennis player.

Career

Russell began at the age of five years with the tennis. He was trained by the beginning of his career until 2012 by his father George. 1998 Russell was professional. In the same year the Americans stood at the U.S. Open for the first time in the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament. In the first round Russell defeated his compatriot Todd Martin. Reached in 2001 with wins over Nicolas Mahut Russell, Sergi Bruguera and Xavier Malisse completely surprising the second round of the French Open. There he led against the defending and eventual champion Gustavo Kuerten 6-3, 6-4 and 5-3, before, after the award of a match ball still in five sets 6-3, 6-4, 6-7 ( 7 ), 3:6 and 1:6 defeated. Russell was the first player to four times in succession on the qualifications of the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament reached ( Wimbledon 2000, U.S. Open 2000, Australian Open 2001, French Open 2001).
