Steve Johnson (tennis)

Steve Johnson ( born December 24, 1989 in Orange, California) is an American tennis player.

Personal

Steve Johnson was born in Orange, where he also grew up. His father Steve is a tennis coach, his mother Michelle professor of mathematics. Johnson, who studied at the University of Southern California ( USC), also has a sister, Alison.

Career

Johnson, who was active and successful in college level for the USC Trojans, has so far been celebrating two tournament success on the Challenger Tour, of which each one in singles and in doubles. Both titles he won on U.S. soil. In the ATP Tour he made his debut in 2010 when he failed to qualify for the main draw in Los Angeles for the first time. In the first round he defeated Somdev Devvarman the Indians. At Grand Slam tournaments he was due to wildcards so far only in the U.S. Open main draw. In 2012 he succeeded in single the first surprise, as he was able to move up in the third round. He defeated Rajeev Ram here and Ernests Gulbis before he failed to Richard Gasquet. In doubles, he was also surprising the opening round with Jack Sock. With 1:6, 7:64, 6:2 defeated the two leading at the time double the world rankings, Daniel Nestor and Max Mirny. In the second round, however, Johnson and Sock subject to their opponents in straight sets.
