Michail Jurowski

Mikhail Vladimirovich Jurowski (Russian: Михаил Владимирович Юровский; born December 25, 1945 in Moscow ) is a Russian conductor.

Life

He is the son of composer Vladimir Jurowski ( 1915-1972 ). At 24, he became an assistant of Gennady Rozhdestvensky at the Grand Symphony Orchestra of State Radio and Television in Moscow. He studied at the Moscow Conservatory with Lev Ginzburg and Alexei Kandinsky. He then worked at the Stanislavsky Theatre and the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow.

From 1978, Jurowski was a regular guest conductor at the Komische Oper Berlin. He was engaged at the Semperoper Dresden 1989. Since 1990 he lives completely in Germany.

From 1992 to 1997 Michail Jurowski was general music director and chief conductor of the Northwest German Philharmonic Orchestra of Herford, then to 1999, music director of the National Theatre of Hanseatic city of Rostock and the Norddeutsche Philharmonie at the People's Theatre in Rostock and in addition, between 1998 and 2006 permanent guest conductor of the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra.

Thereafter, a permanent activity concluded with important orchestras in Scandinavia ( Symphony Malmö Symphony Orchestra Odense, Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestra ) and in Argentina ( Orquesta Filarmónica de Buenos Aires at the Teatro Colón ) to. 1999-2001 he was chief conductor of the Leipzig Opera. Michail Jurowski was from 2006 until the end of 2008 Principal Conductor of the WDR Radio Orchestra Cologne, and since 2003, Principal Guest Conductor of Musicians Orchestra of Lower Austria.

His sons Vladimir ( b. 1972 ) and Dmitri (* 1979 ) are also conductors.
