Michalová

Michalová ( until 1927 slovak also " Michalková "; Hungarian Mihálytelek - to 1886 Mihalova ) is a town in central Slovakia with 1381 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011), the Region belongs to Okres Brezno, a circle of Banskobystrický and the traditional landscape Horehronie is counted.

Geography

The municipality is located in the foothills of the valley landscape Horehronské podolie, more precisely in the lower part called Breznianska kotlina in the valley of the brook Rohozná, surrounded by the foothills of the mountains Veporské Hills. The amount in the municipal area varies from 586 m nm up to 1195 m N.M. and is mostly covered by mixed and coniferous forest. The center is located at an altitude of 590 m nm and is 12 kilometers from Brezno.

History

The village was founded in 1788 as a settlement chamber in the former territory of the city of Brezno, near a iron mine and a blast furnace. After the fall of pig iron production in the late 19th century, most inhabitants of forestry and saw, lived production of charcoal, some worked as carters.

Until 1918, belonged to the lying in the county Sohl place the Kingdom of Hungary and came after Czechoslovakia and Slovakia today. In the years 1938-1950 the town was a manganese ore mine.
