Microsoft MapPoint

Microsoft MapPoint is a program from Microsoft that enables interactive use of maps. Every two to three years will be issued a new version.

MapPoint is directed primarily to business customers. It contains the full functionality of Microsoft Autoroute, integrates with Microsoft Office and in addition allows the integration of map data from different sources, such as Microsoft Excel.

The MapPoint technology is used in:

  • Microsoft Streets and Trips ( for North America, end users)
  • Encarta Encyclopedia
  • The MapPoint Web Service
  • The Virtual Earth Platform
  • Windows Live Local, based on Virtual Earth
  • MSN Maps & routes, based on the MapPoint Web Service

The current version is MapPoint 2013. For the area of ​​research and teaching there is also a non-released for commercial use Academic version.

The software is only available for Windows PCs, a small stripped down viewer with the name of Pocket Streets is however for Windows Mobile devices (such as Pocket PC and MS Smartphone ) included.
