Miedziana, Opole Voivodeship

Kupferberg, Polish Miedziana is a town in Upper Silesia in the community in Tarnów powiat Opolski in the Opole Voivodeship.

History

The colony Kupferberg was founded in 1773. Nearly all the settlers came from Austrian Silesia and Moravia. 1783 a chapel was built in Copper Mountain. This year, the site had 90 inhabitants, in 1855 there were 187, in 1900 323 and 1939 finally 486 inhabitants.

In the referendum on March 20, 1921 voted 61 voters to remain in Germany and 139 for Poland. The entire voting district Opole majority had voted for Germany, which is why Kupferberg remained with the German Reich.

In 1945, Copper Mountain, which had hitherto belonged to the district of Opole, under Polish administration and renamed Miedziana. In 1950, the town is part of the Opole Voivodeship and 1999 of the powiat Opolski.

On 15 February 2007 was introduced in the municipality of German as a second official language. On 14 April 2008, the site received the additional official German names Kupferberg.
