Tarnów Opolski

Tarnów ( Polish Opolski Tarnów ) is a town in Upper Silesia in the Opole Voivodeship Opole powiat in Poland. It has about 3,500 inhabitants and is the capital of the homonymous country church that is bilingual since 2007 (Polish and German ).

History

Tarnów was first mentioned on October 9, 1293.

In the referendum on March 20, 1921 355 voters voted to remain in Germany and 532 for Poland. The entire voting district Opole majority had voted for Germany, which is why Tarnów remained with the German Reich. Until 1945, Tarnów was in the district of Opole.

In 1945, the German far place to Poland and was renamed in Tarnów Opolski. In 1950, the city came to Opole Voivodeship. In 1999 the place to powiat Opolski. Since the Second World War only a part of the German inhabitants were expelled, today a large part of the population is of German descent. According to the last Polish census of 2002 How belong to 24.34 % of the municipality population of the German minority, more 10.87% described themselves as " Silesians ". Therefore, the church is since February 15, 2007 officially bilingual and was able to introduce to the April 14, 2008 German place names.
