Miguel Ángel Jiménez ( born January 5, 1964 in Málaga ) is a Spanish professional golfer. Because of its extremely uniform playing style he is known to his teammates as " The Mechanic".

Career

Jiménez began in 1988 on the European Tour and improved steadily during the next few seasons. In 1992 he achieved his first victory at the Piaget Belgian Open. During his eventful career he had three successful periods. 1994 with the 5th place in the money list European Tour Order of Merit, then again in 1998 and 1999, both years was Jiménez 4 of the Order of Merit with four tournament victories, including the highly doped final tournament, the Volvo Masters and a 2nd place in the WGC - American Express Championship, a World Golf Championships event, as well as his Ryder Cup debut. And finally, the Spaniards came after several mediocre seasons in 2004 with a renewed 4th place in the money list and again four tournament victories, the most this year. Jiménez maintained his form in 2005 with wins at the Hong Kong Open and the Celtic Manor Wales Open. There were other tournament victories in the seasons 2008 and 2010.

The success in 2012 at the UBS Hong Kong Open was his last tournament victory so far. Jiménez was old at the time 48 years and 318 days. He thus replaces Des Smith from the oldest tournament winner on the European Tour. A year later he repeated this victory and improved his own record.

Over the Christmas holidays of 2012, Jiménez was seriously injured. In a skiing accident in the Spanish Sierra Nevada, the golf pro broke the tibia and had to pause several months. In May 2013 he played at the BMW PGA Championship his 600th tournament on the European Tour.
