Miklós Németh (athlete)

Miklós Németh [ Miklos ː ʃ ː ne mɛt ] ( born October 23, 1946 in Budapest ) is a retired Hungarian athlete in the discipline javelin. At a height of 1.83 m his competition weight was 95 kg.

Miklós Németh is the son of Imre Németh, the Olympic champion in the hammer throw in 1948.

Career

At his first Olympic participation in 1968, Miklós Németh could not qualify for the finals in the javelin. He was seventh in 1972 with 81.98 m.

On July 25, 1976, Miklós Németh qualified with 89.28 m for the javelin finals at the Olympic Games in Montreal. In the final on July 26, he threw the spear in the first attempt on the new world record distance of 94.58 meters. In the next two attempts he abandoned, only to be followed by three solid throws, whose best he would have earned bronze. His series was: 94.58 - galv. - Dir. - 83,32 - 84.76 to 86.84. The whole competition was decided after his first throw, at the end he had more than six meters ahead of second-placed Hannu Siitonen and seven yards on third-placed Romanians Gheorghe Megelea.
