Andreas Thorkildsen

Andreas Thorkildsen ( born April 1, 1982 in Kristiansand ) is a Norwegian javelin thrower and Olympic champion.

Life

The Vice Junior World Champion from 2000 participated in the 2001 World Championships in Edmonton in part and in Paris in 2003, but came via an eleventh place not out ( 2003).

Somewhat surprisingly, therefore came his victory at the 2004 Olympics in Athens with 86.50 meters, with more than half meters distance to Vadim Vasilevskis (LAT ) and Sergei Makarov (RUS ).

In the following years, Thorkildsen established then in the world rankings. Thorkildsen improved several times, the Norwegian national record, last on 2 June 2006 in Oslo at 91.59 m. He also holds the junior world record with 83.87 m ( 2001).

2004 and 2008 he won the election to Norway's Sportsman of the Year. In 2008 he was also Europe's athlete of the year and with the Aftenposten gold medal and the Fearnleys olympiske ærespris honored.

Andreas Thorkildsen has a competition weight of 90 kg at a height of 1.88 m. His father, Tomm Thorkildsen was also a good javelin thrower ( Best Performance: 71,64 m, 1974) and inspired his son for the same sport. His mother Bente Amundsen, who was Norwegian champion in the hurdles in the 1970s. Andreas Thorkildsen has been running its eleventh year Javelin, his home club was Kristiansand IF.
