Miklós Szilvási

Miklós Szilvási ( born December 5, 1925 in Márianosztra, † May 24, 1969 in Budapest) was a Hungarian wrestler. He was Olympic champion in 1952 in the Greco-Roman wrestling in the welterweight division.

Career

Miklós Szilvási began in 1942 when Budapesti Vasutas Sports Club ( BVSC ) with the rings. He concentrated primarily on the Greco-Roman style, but was also in free style at home. In 1946 he was Hungarian Champion in Greco-Roman wrestling in lightweight for the first time. Shortly after the war he entered Budapest in the police. Even during the training he suffered while during the service a severe gunshot wound in a leg. However, after prolonged convalescence in 1947, he could wrestle again and was again this year, Hungarian champion in the welterweight division. In that year he was included in the Hungarian national team wrestler, in the Mihály Matura was coach. Throughout his career, he also started for a further Budapest Ringer clubs like Újpest Doja, Ferencvaros Budapest and Doja Sports Egyesülete.

In 1947, the international career of Ringer Miklós Szilvási. He started at the European Championships in Greco -Roman style in Prague and came there behind Yaşar Dogu from Turkey, Gösta Andersson, Sweden and Nikolai Kotscharski, Soviet Union, a good 4th place.

In 1948, he was the first time in the Olympic Games at the start. In London he fought at welterweight in the Greco- Roman style. He won there five times and only lost in the final battle against Gösta Andersson, who thus became Olympic champion in front of him. Winning the silver medal was but Miklós Szilvási a great success.

At the World Championships 1950 in Stockholm, he won two fights, but lost to Gösta Andersson and Matti Siimanainen surprise man from Finland, who became world champion in front of Celal Atik from Turkey and Andersson. Miklós Szilvási came on the 5th Place.

At the 1952 Olympics in Helsinki Miklós Szilvási succeeded then the really big success. He became in the welterweight division, Greco-Roman style, Olympic Champion with five wins. In the decisive battle for the gold medal he beat Gösta Andersson. Previously, he had won among others against the German Anton Mackowiak.

At the World Championships in 1953 in Naples, he then won his last medal at an international championship. He defeated while the strong wrestler by Berlin from Sweden, Marin Beluşica from Romania and Franco Benedetti from Italy. In the final, but he could against the Soviet Ringer Georgi Chatvorjan not avoid defeat. He finished in 2nd place.

At the World Championship 1955 in Karlsruhe Miklós Szilvási won Vladislav Sekal from Czechoslovakia and Oddvar Vargset from Norway on points and then but had to retire due to attainment of five faulty points after a defeat against Wladimir Manejew from the USSR. He got away with it in the final only to 9th place. He was then also at the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956 at the start. With only one victory over the Americans Holt he came to Melbourne with 12 participants, on the 7th Place.

Then he ended his international career Ringer. He then worked as a wrestler trainer in Budapest, but in 1969 died at the age of 43 years.
