Mildura

Mildura is a city in the Australian state of Victoria and is located in the northwest of the state on the Murray River on the border with New South Wales. It is the capital of the Local Government Area Rural City of Mildura.

The city is the center of an agricultural region known as Sunraysia. Especially citrus fruits and grapes are produced here.

1887, the city was founded and moved in just four years at more than 3,000 settlers, although the connection to the railway network until 1903 took place at a distance of 550 km from the capital Melbourne. Because of the transport situation developed in Mildura an industry for dried fruits, for the Sunraysia is known today.

However, the region also has repeatedly struggled with pests. A rabbit plague led in the early years, along with a general recession to a serious crisis. And today, the city is located in a " Fruit Fly Exclusion Zone ", in the to protect against fruit flies of certain fruit and vegetables should not be introduced.

The rapid initial growth of the settlement meant that Mildura was generous and large area planned and so the Deakin Avenue is 12.1 km, the longest straight road in the country. In Mildura even live about 30,000 inhabitants, in the city area ( Rural City of Mildura ) about 52,000 inhabitants.

Near Mildura is planned the largest thermal power plant in the world that will have a collector roof height of 7 kilometers in diameter and a tower with 1,000 m.
