Milena Canonero

Milena Canonero (* January 1, 1942, or according to other sources January 1, 1946 in Turin) is an Italian costume designer. Canonero was nominated eight times for an Academy Award in the years 1975 to 2006, three times she was able to win the prize.

Life

Milena Canonero grew up in a French convent. She studied art history and costume design in Genoa and London. Your first practical experience she gained on the side of Vittorio de Sica. Later she also worked at the New York Metropolitan Opera and designed there among other costumes for Die Fledermaus and Andrea Chénier. The opera singer Kiri Te Kanawa wore in performances Canonera creations. End of the 60s Milena Canonera went to England, where they contact tied over the (then) short film director Hugh Hudson to the film industry.

In London she met the director Stanley Kubrick know that in 1970 she hired for his film A Clockwork Orange. Four years later, Canonero again worked with Kubrick and designed together with Ulla- Britt Söderlund in 1976 which won the Academy Award for Barry Lyndon costumes. In the 1980s, Canonero coined the style of dress in the television series Miami Vice.

In 2010 she designed the costumes for the new production of Puccini's Tosca at the Munich State Opera.

Canonero is married to actor Marshall Bell and lives in West Hollywood, California.
