Milevsko

Milevsko (older spelling Milewsk; German Mulhouse ) is a city in Okres Pisek in the Czech Republic. It is located 22 km north-east of Pisek.

Geography

Milevsko located in the Central Bohemian hills at the creek Milevsky ( Mühlhauser Bach). Neighboring towns are Přeborov and BREZI in the north, and presten Tynice in the northeast, Božetice in the east, and Sepekov Líšnice the southeast, Křižanov and Veselíčko in the south, and Rukáveč Květov in the southwest, and Zbelítov Velka in the west and Hrejkovice in the northwest. History

Milevsko developed around the 1184 by Georg von Mühlhausen ( Jiří z Milevska ) founded Premonstratensian Milevsko, whose monastery church " Visitation " under the first abbot Gerlach ( Jarloch ) was built. As town Milevsko was first mentioned in 1327 in connection with the salt trade. In the 14th century, the monastery acquired its largest cultural and economic prosperity. After the monastery was destroyed in 1420 by the Hussites, reached the monastery owned 1437 Ulrich von Rosenberg in 1473 and to the Lords of Swan Mountain. 1575 the monastery was closed and sold the monastery to the Schwanberger, which was followed by the Hodějovský of Hodějov. They built the entire monastery complex to a manor, but lost after the Battle of White Mountain because of their participation in the Bohemian uprising their possessions. Below handed the emperor the former Klosterbesitzungen 1623 at the Strahov Monastery, of the re-founded the monastery and the church was in the Baroque style. 1759 Milevsko became a town. 1785 was part of the Josephine reforms to abolish the abbey, which further economic and cultural development of Milevsko came to a halt. In the 17th century the Jewish community built a synagogue and a cemetery. 1889 Milevsko received railway connection to the track Pisek - Tabor - Jihlava. From the beginning of the 20th century, the traditional crafts, especially the production of pottery developed.

Attractions

  • Monastery Milevsko with the Romanesque monastery church " Visitation " from the 12th century was enlarged in the 13th century in Baroque style after the Thirty Years' War.
  • The previously mentioned 1184 Romanesque St. Giles church was rebuilt in the 14th century in the Gothic style.
