Milorad B. Protić

Milorad B. Protić ( Милорад Б Протић, . Born August 6, 1911 in Belgrade, † 29 October 2001, same place ) was a Yugoslavian astronomer.

Protić was one of the first asteroid discoverer of the former Yugoslavia. He also discovered the comet C/1947 Y1. The seven he discovered asteroid bear all the names that are related to his homeland:

So the asteroid ( 1517) Beograd bears the name of the former Yugoslav capital, Belgrade, during ( 1550) Tito after the former leader Josip Broz Tito and ( 1554 ) Yugoslavia after the former state of Yugoslavia are named. ( 1564) reminds Srbija Serbia.

After the wife of the Serbian King Stefan Uroš II Milutin, Queen Simonida, the asteroid (1675 ) Simonida is named. More Serbian personalities were with the asteroid ( 2244 ) Tesla - and honored ( 2348 ) Michkovitch, the latter named after the SANU member Vojislav V. Miskovic - after the inventor and engineer Nikola Tesla.

Protić even the asteroid ( 22278 ) Protitch was paid for his work in the field of fundamental astronomy and celestial mechanics, and as a three-time director of the Belgrade Observatory. According to his grandson, the asteroid ( 1724) Vladimir is also named.
