The Minerva class is a class corvettes of the Italian Navy.

Units

The class consists of eight 1985-1991 at Fincantieri in Genoa ( Riva Trigoso ) and La Spezia ( Muggiano ) built in two series ships. They bear the names of ancient deities and mythological figures and are thus in succession to the same corvettes of the previous Gabbiano class.

These corvettes are used in first line to the monitoring of coastal waters (eg migration control) and the EEZ (eg fisheries protection ). All eight corvettes are in Augusta, Sicily, home, managed by the local command of the patrol forces ( COMFORPAT ). In addition, they are also used for training of aspiring commander of larger military vessels ( Scuola di Comando Navale ). The decommissioning of at least six units is planned (as of June 2012).
