Moana, New Zealand

Moana is a small municipality in the West Coast region on the South Island of New Zealand. It lies on the north shore of Lake Brunner near the outflow of the lake in the Arnold River. A pedestrian suspension bridge over the river to the other side of the lake. The tourist attractions of the place are focused on water sports on Lake Brunner. The railway line of the Midland Line performs Moana. The tourist train TranzAlpine stops here twice a day, once back and once used on the on the return trip, the route is also loaded with coal freight trains.

The total population of the statistical territory " Lake Brunner ", next to the Moana also includes the surrounding areas, the 2006 census had a population of 258 inhabitants, a decrease of six since 2001.

Education

The Lake Brunner School is a co-educational primary school for the 1st to 8th grade with a decile rating of 7 and 59 students in 2009. A second school that Rotomanu School, closed in 2005 and merged with the Lake Brunner School.
