Moldova Nouă

Moldova Nouă ( Neumoldowa German, Hungarian Újmoldova, Czech Moldava Nová, Croatian Nova Moldova, Serbian Cyrillic Нова Молдова ) is a town in the district Caras -Severin, Banat, Romania.

Geographical location

Moldova Nouă is located in the Banat on the south side of the Locva mountains, a few kilometers left of the Danube. The district capital Resita is about 65 km to the north.

History

The territory of the present-day city was originally two villages, namely Bosniak ( first mentioned in 1723, originally inhabited by settlers from Styria and Tyrol ) and Baron (1761, Romanian village ). Since 1777 the present name is busy. The city's history is closely linked to the mining industry, which already operated at the time of the Roman Empire and 1728 at the latest - was resumed - under the rule of Austria -Hungary. Since 1918, a part of the place to Romania. He was appointed to the city in 1968. It stagnated in recent decades the development of the central hamlet actually Moldova Nouă while the location on the Danube district of Moldova Veche significantly expanded through the harbor. Important economic activities are the fishing, shipping, timber processing and agriculture.

Population

In 1777, 32 houses were counted in Moldova Nouă. 1880 lived in the actual place 3,158 people, including 2,586 Romanians, 421 German, 44 Serbs and 17 Hungary. By 1966, the population increased ( 5838 ) and has since declined again. As of the 2002 census, 3,492 residents were still registered in the city proper, including 3,314 Romanians, 67 Czechs, 49 Roma, 29 Serbs, 20 Hungarians and 10 German. In the entire city lived 2002 13.917 people.

Traffic

Moldova Nouă has no rail connection. Of great economic importance of the port on the Danube in Moldova Veche. Through the city, the National Road 57 from Orşova after Moravita. There are regular buses to Timisoara, Resita and Caransebeş.
