Mont-le-Vernois

Mont -le- Vernois is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Mont -le- Vernois situated at an altitude of 265 m above sea level, 7 km west-southwest of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the central part of the department, on a terrace on the western slope of the heights which rise between the river valleys of the Saône and Ognon, a scenic location above the upper Saônebecken.

The area of ​​7.76 km ² municipal area includes a portion in the hills between the Saône in the north and in the south Ognon. The area is divided in two natural environments. The northwestern part of the country terrace comprises of Montreal, which is divided by the little valley of the Ruisseau des Dindes. This rises in the boiler of Le Vernois and drains the area to the northwest of the Baignotte to Durgeon. To the north, the slope decreases gradually to Talniederung of Baignotte and Durgeon. This section is composed of the tertiary sediments. Agricultural land use predominates here.

To the south and south-east passes through a 100 m high steep slope to the adjacent plateau. It consists of carbonate sediments of the middle Jurassic period. The plateau ( located on average 350 m) is mainly composed of forest ( including the Bois de Plagne ). On the south-east, the municipality's area extends to the tip of the Côte d' Andelarre, on the 403 m, the highest peak of Mont -le- Vernois is achieved.

The municipality consists of two districts:

  • Montreal (265 m ) on the grounds terrace above the Saônebecken
  • Le Vernois (260 m) in a basin of Ruisseau des Dindes

Neighboring municipalities of Mont -le- Vernois are Chariez in the north, Andelarre in the east, the south and Andelarrot Velle -le- Châtel and Boursières in the West.

History

Several findings indicate that the area was already inhabited in Gallo- Roman times. In the Middle Ages Mont belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The town formed its own rule, which in 1740 raised to the Marquisat. Together with the Franche -Comté reached Montreal with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today Mont -le- Vernois is a member of the comprehensive 19 villages municipal association Communauté de communes de l' agglomà de Vesoul.

Attractions

Today's Château de Mont consists of two buildings. These are flanked by towers, which once belonged to the medieval seat of power. In the hamlet Le Vernois is the chapel of Saint- Antoine.

Population

With 160 inhabitants (1 January 2011 ) Mont -le- Vernois one of the smallest municipalities in the department of Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 361 persons were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1960s.

Economy and infrastructure

Mont -le- Vernois was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village. The formerly significant viticulture is now virtually disappeared. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in town. In recent decades the village has been transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who do their work in the agglomeration Vesoul.

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes. The main access is from the Department of D13 road that leads from Vesoul by Fresne -Saint- Mamès. Further road links exist with Velle -le -Chatel, Boursières and Andelarre.
