Monteagudo, Bolivia

Monteagudo is a small town in the department of Chuquisaca in the South American Andes State of Bolivia. The city is named after Bernardo de Monteagudo Cáceres (1789-1825), who was instrumental in the revolution of Chuquisaca of 25 May 1809.

Location

Monteagudo is the seat of the administration of the province Hernando Siles and central location in the district ( bolivian: Municipio) Monteagudo. The city lies at an altitude of 1144 m at the mouth of the River Sauces in the Río Bañado and is framed by the north- south running mountain ranges with lush vegetation.

Climate

The small town is located in the humid Chaco of Bolivia subandinen. In the months of July to September, in the space Monteagudo a pronounced dry season during the months of December and January are characterized by some heavy rainfall.

Traffic network

Monteagudo is located at a distance of 317 kilometers of road southeast of Sucre, the capital of the department.

From Sucre from the highway Ruta 6 leads in a south-easterly direction over Tarabuco Zudañez, Tomina and Padilla after Monteagudo and on about Lagunillas and Boyuibe to the border with Paraguay. There is less than a third of the paved path between Sucre and Monteagudo, the journey by bus takes about 8 hours in dry weather, wet weather, the road conditions of earth and gravel are difficult to predict.

To the NE, Monteagudo is connected to Santa Cruz, the capital of the neighboring Santa Cruz departments. The unpaved Ruta 6 results first in an easterly direction up to 104 km away Ipati, from there the paved Route 9 about a further 255 km to the north to Santa Cruz.
