Moraira

Moraira is a small fishing village on the Costa Blanca, which is dominated by tourism and the 4-km landward municipality of Teulada, Alicante province belongs. Villas of wealthy residents from all over Europe and Spaniards determine the image of the environment. There are also a small old town. Hotels are rather rare, and up to two apartment buildings with seven floors, there are no skyscrapers. Location and climate

Moraira is situated directly by the sea on the Costa Blanca. The place has succeeded in spite of tourism to preserve its originality. Nestled between mountains and sea, there is here a climate with an annual average temperature of 21 degrees Celsius. Over 300 days of sunshine and the cool north protective hills characterize the climate.

Beaches

The fishing town of Moraira offers original natural beaches. Rocky coves and sandy beaches alternate. The Watchtower of Cap d' Or and the castle on the beach regarded as a symbol of the place. During the 1970s holidaymakers discovered this former fishing village in itself.

The marshland del Senillar

The " wetland of Senillar " is located immediately behind the beach L' Ampolla and is drained by a narrow outlet to the beach (in the foreground of the image on the right can be seen ). It involves a multi-piece elongated lagoon area with an extent of about 1 ha in the middle of Moraira. The area is separated from the sand barrier of the beach from the sea. The lagoon was reconstructed by the municipality in 2002 and regressed to their original state. That water comes from the dining all year round here outcropping groundwater from the local pool of Les Sorts brook, whose one of two gullies forms the lagoon. The area was declared a nature reserve in 2004 and is accordingly provided with a protective fence. Old town

In Moraira Moors and Christians are celebrated on the second weekend in June. The past and the history are displayed. The boozy festival is crowned with a final fireworks.

In its fiestas patronales from 15 July Moraira honors its patron saint, the Virgen de los Desamparados ( Virgin of the Forsaken ) and Virgen Carmen. Patronales Fiestas are celebrated in the summer in every city on the coast.

Gastronomy

In Moraira there is a rich gastronomic offer.

Paella or black rice with squid ink, Arroz del Señoret ( paella Herrenart without fish bones, shells and bones) or arroz a banda ( rice dish with fish broth cooked ) are traditional rice dishes of the Marina Alta.
