Morris Pert

Morris David Brough Pert ( born September 9, 1947 in Arbroath, Angus, † 27 April, 2010 Balchrick, Kinlochbervie, Sutherland ) was a British composer and drummer. Between 1977 and 1979 he was a member of the band Brand X.

Life

Pert first studied music at Edinburgh University. After his undergraduate degree he studied under Alan Bush Composition and percussion at the Royal Academy of Music in London. During his studies at the Royal Academy in 1970, he was awarded the Bach Prize of the Royal Philharmonic Society for his orchestral piece Xumbu -Ata. He then worked for two years together with the Japanese percussionist Stomu Yamashta. From the early 1970s he worked both as a composer, including regularly for the BBC, as well as a studio musician in the area of ​​pop and rock music. Between 1972 and 2009 he worked as a percussionist, drummer, keyboardist and arranger for artists such as Paul McCartney, Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, Mike Oldfield and Kate Bush. 1977 Pert was chosen by Billboard magazine in the list of the best jazz and rock drummer fourth.

Pert composed three symphonies: The Rising of the Moon, The Beltane Rites and The Ancient Kindred. The latter was first performed in 1980 under the direction of Eberhard Schoener on German television.

After Pert shortly before the work had finished on his fifth album, he worked in his studio at his Fourth Symphony, De Situ Albanie. Since he did not respond to calls and doorbells, finally, his apartment was opened by the police. Officers found Pert before dead.
