Morsang-sur-Orge

Morsang -sur -Orge is a commune with 21,043 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Essonne in the Ile- de -France region. The municipality is the capital ( chef-lieu ) of the Canton of Morsang -sur -Orge and is part of the Local Government Association, Val d' Orge.

Geography

Morsang -sur -Orge is located 21.5 km south of Paris and about 7.5 km south-southwest of the airport Paris -Orly. In the north of the municipality of the Orge flows to the confluence with the Yvette. Below the river course of the Orge is the Bassin du Morsang, which is also used as a stormwater retention basin.

To the northwest lies the community Villemoisson -sur -Orge, in the north of Savigny- sur -Orge, east Viry -Châtillon, in the southwest of Fleury- Mérogis and to the south and southwest of Sainte -Geneviève -des- Bois.

Traffic

Through the community Autoroute A6 from Paris to Lyon leads.

History

End of the 10th century in the time of Hugh Capet, the town is mentioned as Murcinctus as a possession of the abbey of Saint Mangloire first time in the 12th century as Murcenc. From the 13th century the church of Saint -Jean was built.
