Moscow Biennale

The Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art (Russian Московская биеннале современного искусства ) is a project of several art installations that are carried out since 2004 in approximately two yearly intervals in Moscow (Russia).

The first Biennale entitled Dialectics of Hope took place until 28 February 2005 and 28 January. The curators of the Biennale were Joseph Brick, Daniel Birnbaum, Iara Boubnova, Nicolas Bourriaud, Rosa Martinez and Hans -Ulrich Obrist. A total of 300 artists from 21 countries took part. The central project was presented in the former Lenin Museum near the Red Square.

The second Moscow Biennale took place from March 1 to April 1, 2007 the Moscow City in itself is still under construction high-rise instead.

The third Biennale took place before 1 November 2009 of 25 September. As the scene this time the center opened in 2008 for Modern Culture " Garage " was selected, in which it is a former garage building from 1927, which at that time was built with the participation of the architect Konstantin Melnikov and Vladimir Shukhov of the engineer.

The Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art 4 from September 23 to October 30, 2011 was curated by Peter Weibel, Director of ZKM ​​Karlsruhe. On the main exhibition titled Rewriting Worlds attended 64 artists and 16 groups of artists from 33 countries. Exhibition was the ARTPLAYDesignCenter and TSUM Art Foundation, both in Moscow. Outdoor projects in Yekaterinburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Kiev and London. Weibel et al Kader Attia, Chen Chieh- jen, EVOL, Claire Fontaine, Susan Hiller, Rebecca Horn, Manabu Ikeda, Shilpa Gupta, Armin Linke, Fabian Marcaccio, Neo Rauch, Rosângela Rennó, Timo Toots, Ai Weiwei and Guido Van der Werve invited. Ai Weiwei showed his video Beijing: The Second Ring of 2005.
