Mouloud Hamrouche

Mouloud Hamrouche (Arabic مولود حمروش, DMG Mulud Ḥamrūš; born January 3, 1943 in Constantine) was 1989-1991 Algerian Prime Minister / Prime Minister.

Hamrouche was for many years the leadership circle of the FLN. Therefore, he was appointed by the President Chadli Bendjedid prime minister. During his tenure he supported the Reformtätgkeit.

After the oil price fall mid -80s, the centrally planned economy could no longer be maintained in Algeria. Thus, a reorientation was needed, the way to a free market economy was in the hands of Hamrouche.

In the later 1990s, he fell out with the party because of their proximity to the military. He joined the presidential election of 1999 as an independent candidate, but reached 314 160 votes (3.1% ) only the fifth place.
