Muráň

Muráň ( until the 19th century Slovak also " Podmuráň "; German Bottom uranium, Hungarian Murányalja - older even Murány ) is a municipality in Okres Revúca in central Slovakia.

It is located about 9 km north of Revúca south of Murano plateau in the northeastern foothills ( Spišsko - Gemerský kras ) of the Slovak Ore Mountains and is drained by the river of the same Muráň.

It was first mentioned in writing in 1321, but a Moranalya (such as " Murano Schlossberg " ) is not mentioned in 1427. The subsequent history is marked by the respective rulers of the castle. Infamous is the robber barons Matej Baso, which caused mischief in the first half of the 16th century.

The ruins of Burg Muráň (1271 mentioned as castrum Mwran ) is in the north to the mountains above the village, it burned in 1702 and has since been a ruin.
