Najaf Governorate
An- Najaf Al- Najaf or (Arabic النجف, DMG to - Naǧaf ) is a governorate in southern Iraq. Capital is the city of Najaf. An- Najaf al - Anbar borders, al - Muthanna, Karbala, Babil and al - Qadisiyya, as well as Saudi Arabia.
Population
The population of the province is about 1.2006 million (as of 2008), of which about 70 % live in the capital of Najaf. All the inhabitants are Muslim Shiite faith.
History
In an- Najaf is the city of Kufa ( 638 based), which was once a great cultural center and capital of the Abbasid Caliphate.

On October 15, 2005 of 299 420 voters voted 95.82 % yes for the new constitution.
