Namangan Province

The Namangan Province ( Uzbek: Namangan Viloyati ) is located in eastern Uzbekistan, at the southern part of the Ferghanatals. It has an area of ​​7,900 square kilometers and a population of 2,194,658 (2008). The population density is 278 inhabitants per square kilometer. Capital is Namangan.

The province was created on March 6, 1941 as part of the Uzbek SSR, however, was resolved between January 5, 1960 and 18 December 1967. Since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, it is one of the independent state of Uzbekistan. It is divided into eleven districts ( Tuman ). The cities of Namangan, Kosonsoy, Uchqorgon, Chortoq and Chust province are directly, that is, they belong to any district.

The climate is typically continental with extreme temperature differences between summer and winter. Natural resources include petroleum, natural gas, gold, lead, copper, quartz and antimony. Agricultural products are cotton, horticulture, sericulture and animal husbandry, including the breeding of Angora goats for their precious hair.

The industry is focused primarily on the production of textiles, with two large production complexes for silk, as well as non-profit production sites for fabrics, cotton yarn, leather and shoes. The area is also a center of traditional Uzbek crafts, especially for the manufacture of knives.
