Našice

Našice [ naʃitsɛ ] ( German outdated Naschitz ) is a city in Croatia, part of the County of Osijek- Baranja.

Geography

Našice is a small town in Slavonia, 50 km away from Osijek, located on the northern slope of Krndija Mountains.

Population

According to the census of 2011, the municipality has 16,224 inhabitants Našice, 7,888 of which the city itself National structure:

  • 14.284 Croats ( 88.04 %)
  • Slovaks 1,078 ( 6.64% )
  • 588 Serbs ( 3.62% )
  • Other 274 (1.69 %)

History

Našice is mentioned for the first time in 1229. In medieval documents different names occur: Nolko, Nolche, Negke, Nexe Nekche, Vesice and Nesice. The secular lords of Našice and its possessions were the Aba, David Lacković, Ivan Korvin, Ivan and Nikola Gorjanski and Ilok Prince Ujlaky. In ecclesiastical terms, Templars, Hospitallers and Franciscans were the owners. Franciscans come to Našice in the second half of the 13th century and remain to this day. In the 14th century, the church of St. Anthony of Padua is built in the Gothic style and the Baroque style in the early 18th century. Našice is from 1532 to 1687 under Turkish rule. In 1734 the Estate of Našice is bought by the Count Pejačević that keep this up to the year 1945. The counts Pejačević build the so-called " great castle " in 1811 and since then the family Pejačević lives in the city and participates in the development of Našice. The "small castle " is for Marko VI. , The oldest son of Dr. Teodor Pejačević built. In the revolutionary events in 1848 Pejačević the family is allowed to intervene in the political life of Croatia. Count Ladislav Pejačević appointed Croatian Ban. Because of the reputation and renown family Pejačević Count Teodor Pejačević is appointed prefect of Virovitica and in 1903 to the Croatian Ban. His daughter Teodora ( Dora ) Pejačević will make known as the first Croatian composer her family and the town Našice. Dora was educated in Dresden and Munich. She showed excellent musical talent and learned violin and piano playing. Her works were on the repertoire of many respected artists and their name on the concert posters along with the world's greatest composers. Even before the First World War, there are in the city water supply, telephone and electricity. In 1893 the railway line comes after Našice and thereby the city a major transportation hub. During World War II Našice suffers from destruction, the Pejačević castle became the seat of the German command, and the family leaves Pejačević Našice. Later Našice becomes the center of the Croatian Spring in this part of Slavonia.

Economy

The focus of the economy in Našice is the NEXE group. The main economic activities are agriculture, fishing, metal processing, cement manufacturing, stone excavation, timber and food processing, etc.

Culture and sights

In Našice the Church of St. Anthony of Padua, the library of the Franciscan monastery with 10 incunabula, the "old" and "new" Castle of the Counts Pejačević are ( late Baroque with classical elements ) as well as the Chapel of the Mausoleum of the Earls Pejačević and the grave of Countess Dora. In Pejačević castle is now a museum. The palaces are surrounded by a park. In the park there is a lake with a small island and the " Dora's Pavilion" so-called.

Which is 3 km away from Našice Martin, the St. Martin church. It was built by the Crusaders in the early 13th century and is the only fully preserved Templar church in Croatia.

The surrounding Markovac Našički is the zoo in the Bizik family.

Education

In the city, there are now two primary schools and a secondary school with lots of educational backgrounds.

Sports

In Našice there including the basketball club, tennis club and women volleyball club " Našice " football club " NASK " and " Radnik Šipovac ", but the most famous is the handball club " Nexe ", which is located in the first Croatian league.
