National Council of Churches
The National Council of Churches ( Full name: National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA; abbreviated NCC, German: National Council of Churches of the United States ) is an association of 37 Protestant, Orthodox and other Christian denominations. These are largely connected with the ecumenical movement within Christianity and meet annually at a general meeting as well as several smaller meetings of the Executive Committee. In the NCC over 100,000 congregations and 45 million people are organized.
The church council is the editor of two translations of the Bible ( Revised Standard Version, New Revised Standard Version) and a regular Yearbook of American and Canadian Churches; he is active in peace issues and questions of social justice, which is why he is considered by some conservative Christian denominations as " left".
The NCC was founded in 1950, its predecessor organization, the Federal Council of Churches ( Federal Council of Churches ) in 1908. The church council has its headquarters in New York.
