National Council of La Raza

The National Council of La Raza ( translated as National Council of Spanish speaking against racial discrimination, abbreviation NCLR, in Spanish Raza stands for people in terms of population) is an umbrella organization for charitable self-help and counseling organizations against poverty, racial discrimination and lack of education in the U.S. families with Hispanic or Latino roots. It belongs to the spectrum of the civil rights movement in the U.S. and is ( at least formally ) party neutral and non-partisan. The organization operates nationwide in over 300 locations.

Its headquarters is Washington, D.C. and it will entertain eight regional offices in Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Phoenix, Sacramento, San Antonio and San Juan. Is currently President Janet Murguia woman.

History

The NCLR emerged in the early 1960s as a regional grouping.

In 1973, the precursor to SWCLR nationwide organization, as its second president Raul Yzaguirre was then selected. Through an amendment and women could equally be active in the NCLR.

Its importance increased with the immigration to the United States from Mexico and Cuba.
