Natuna Islands

The Natuna Islands ( Indonesian: kabupaten Natuna ) are an archipelago of Indonesia in the South China Sea.

They belong to the province of Kepulauan Riau and the northern Indonesian island group whose territorial affiliation is indisputable. They form - together with the Anambas, Badas and Tambelan Islands - the Tujuh archipelago.

The Natuna Islands comprise 272 islands between Borneo and Vietnam, northeast of Anambas Islands. The islands have a population of about 100,000 people, most of whom work as farmers or fishermen. A strong tourism does not exist.

The main island of Natuna Besar (also called Ranai ) has an area of 1,720 km ². Here can be found with the Gunung Ranai with 1,035 m the highest mountain in the archipelago. The island is accessible by boat from Tanjung Pinang Jakarta or small aircraft operate from Batam.
