Nelson Doi

Nelson Kiyoshi Doi ( born January 1, 1922 in Pahoa, Hawaii Territory ) is a former American politician. Between 1974 and 1978 he was Deputy Governor of the State of Hawaii.

Career

Nelson Doi graduated from the University of Hawaii. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party. He was a delegate to the Constitutional Convention of Hawaii in 1950, where he designed some future laws, then in 1959 joined the founding of the state in force. Between 1955 and 1959, Doi sat in the territorial Senate. After that he belonged until 1969 to even the Senate of Hawaii. In 1968 he took part in a constitutional convention of his state as a delegate. Since 1970 he worked as a district judge. In the same year, he ran unsuccessfully for even the vice governor.

Doi 1974 but was then voted on the side of George Ariyoshi for Lieutenant Governor of Hawaii. A post he held between 2 December 1974 and 2 December 1978. Yet he was assistant to the governor. After his time as Lieutenant Governor, he applied unsuccessfully for the post of mayor of Honolulu. For some time he was a judge in the Marshall Islands. He then worked at several schools in Japan as a teacher. Then he returned to Hawaii, where he participated in the construction of a hospital.
