Nol de Ruiter ( born April 6, 1940 in Utrecht ) is a former Dutch football player and coach.

Playing career

De Ruiter was an amateur footballer with DOS, Velox and UPS Elinkwijk. These three clubs merged later to FC Utrecht

Coaching career

De Ruiter coaching career began in 1974 at FC Den Bosch. With the club he played for two years in the Eerste Divisie, before he moved to league rival SC Cambuur - Leeuwarden 1976. But, as in Den Bosch, was the success from here. Best place in the second division was 1979/80, as the fifth place was reached. Then led de Ruiter the fortunes of FC Wageningen. After two years there followed the end. Between 1982 and 1984 paused the football coach. Finally, it FC Utrecht in 1984 took them under contract. With the Utrecht String de Ruiter usually played in mid-table. Sixth 1986/87 was the best positioning under his direction. After its off the FCU the coach came to a three-year break. Finally, he was surprisingly used in 1990 by the KNVB as Bondscoach the Netherlands. He took this job by Thijs Libregts as interim coach. After two games in which lost a game and a game is won, de Ruiter was replaced by Leo Beenhakker, who led the team to the World Cup 1990. In 1992, de Ruiter at ADO Den Haag again a head coaching job. Under his direction, the immediate resurgence should succeed. But after eighth and seventh in the Eerste Divisie, the paths between coach and club parted again after two years. Between 1994 and 1995 he was briefly coach of the Egyptian national team. Having refused his team in a match in Algeria to attend de Ruiter in January 1995 due to domestic political problems, he was discharged. Finally, de Ruiter returned 1995/96 again for one year for FC Utrecht back. This was his most recent coaching position.
