Nord-Pas -de- Calais [ nɔʀpɑdkalɛ ] is the northernmost region of France. It lies on the border of Belgium and consists of the departments of Nord and Pas -de -Calais. The region has an area of ​​12,414 km ² and 4,042,015 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011). Capital of the region is Lille.

History

In the region, the French share of Flanders ( French Flanders ) and the Hainaut and Artois landscape lie. They all belong only since 1678 to France. Economy
