Nordic Folkboat Gold Cup

The Gold Cup or Gold Cup is the most important competition of the Folkeboot class in sailing and is an unofficial world championship the same.

The competition has been held since 1963 in Sweden, Denmark and Germany, although the participants come from several European and American countries.

History and competition format

The original trophy was donated in 1963 from the Lübeck Senator Hagelstein as a challenge cup was made of pure gold (1 kg, 985er gold) and could only be kept in a bank safe because of its value. In addition, the winner got a new cast Folkeboot. The Gold Cup may not be engraved. The winners will be entered on a roll of parchment, which is kept inside the Cup.

According to the provisions under which the one club that had won six times the Gold Cup gets to keep the trophy, the first trophy in 1974 went to the København Amatør Sejlklub (KAS ), the second in 1982 at the Kerteminde Sejlklub.

Originally, the competition should be held exclusively in Lübeck- Travemünde or in a Danish city. In 1984, due to the high number of reported Boats (96, of which 8 are from the U.S.) divided the field into two competitions: the Gold Cup and the newly established silver cup.

The first winner Crew 1963 belonged to Henry Dahlinger a handball world class players.
